UNAIR NEWS “ Two academicians of 51¶¯Âþ (UNAIR) participated in the Kick-off Meeting of the establishment of ASEAN University Network – Sustainable City and Urban Development (AUN-SCUD), which was held in of Universitas Indonesia (UI) Jakarta, 14-15 December 2017. Two UNAIR academicians are Iman Prihandono, Ph.D, lecturer of the Faculty of Law (FH), and Dr. Ir. Eko Prasetyo, DEA, lecturer of Faculty of Science and Technology (FST).
“The establishment of AUN-SCUD is a follow up of the 33rd AUN Board of Trustee’s meeting. Thus, AUN-SCUD was established as a forum to strengthen cooperation between experts, academics and policy makers in the sustainable urban development. In addition, to encourage ASEAN regional understanding of the importance of sustainable cities for improving living standards of community, “said Iman Prihandono.
Thus, AUN-SCUD is expected to be a forum for research collaboration, publishing articles and journals, as well as formulating policy frameworks in infrastructure development, urban planning, environmental management, governance and socio-economic aspects of sustainable urban development. Therefore, AUN-SCUD provides a place for academics from various fields of science.
In this occasion attended by representative of universities in ASIA who also member of AUN, such as Universiti Sains Malaysia, University Malaya, Prince Songkhla University Thailand, and De La Salle University Manila.
The event was opened by Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, AUN Executive Director. Furthermore, the Kick-off Meeting was led by Drs. Ali Berawi, Ph.D as Director of Center for Sustainable Infrastructure Development (CSID) as well as initiator of AUN-SCUD establishment.
Iman Prihandono said in the meeting the participants have agreed upon structural organization of AUN-SCD management, which is led by the representative of University of Indonesia. In addition, in the management also distinguished into five clusters which focus on sustainable urban development issues. They are Sustainable Infrastructure; Sustainable Urban Development; Sustainable Smart City; Sustainable Economy; dan Sustainable Society.
Dr. Eko Prasetyo, DEA join in the Sustainable Urban Development cluster. While Iman Prihandono, Ph.D was selected as the Coordinator of the Sustainable Society cluster. AUN-SCUD will host The 1st International Conference on Sustainable Urban and Urban Development at Universiti Malaya 2018.
According to Iman, the involvement of UNAIR academician was very important in AUN-SCUD, because not only to support the government’s infrastructure development program, but also for the realization of clean, healthy and sociable city for its citizens socially and economically, both in Indonesia and ASEAN “.
