Two Researchers Receive Research Grants from Government

UNAIR NEWS Two researchers ofhave received university industrial General Directorate of Innovation Development, Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education. The grants to produce research of the research were awarded after going through series of proposal selections and presentations.

It was stated by Head of Research and Innovation Board Prof. Hery Purnobasuki, Ph.D, during interview on Tuesday, March 21. 淭he grants from Kemenristekdikti are from various sources. Some grants are related to innovation. This Innovation Development General Directorate grants are quite large as it is close with the industry, said Hery.

Hery said that his unit has proposed eleven researches for the grants but after the selection by Kemenristekdikti team, only two researches got the grants.

At national level, from all universities acting as legal entity (PTN-BH), there are 13 researchers getting the research grants. Two researchers from UNAIR stem cell expert Prof. Dr. Fedik Abdul Rantam, and Dr. Suryani Dyah Astuti.

Prof. Fedik檚 research which receives 2.93 billion research grant was titled 淪tem Cell Production Acceleration and Mesenchymal Stem Cell Metabolites for Degenerative Therapy.

While Dyah research entitled 淎ntimicrobial Dentolaser Production and Cell Biomodulation Innovation to Accelerate Dental and Oral Disease Recovery, received 4 billion research grant.

Besides administrative selection, the main requirement for the researches to get the grants is being in level 6 of technology readiness level. This level means that the research is at the stage of technological demonstration phase.

Both researches have different targets. Stem cell research of Prof. fedik will be developed into a stem cell clinical while antimicrobial dentolaser will be developed into a teaching industry which can be used for students learning facility.

淚t means that the dentolaser product will be used for teaching facility, and the product will be mass produced. For the stem cell, the government asked us to develop a stem cell clinic, explained Hery.

Dyah, the creator of Dentolaser, said that she was developing laser for antimicrobial therapy for dental and oral diseases and skin infection on the skin. The target, in 2018, Dentolaser product will be manufactured and promoted to users such as Indonesian Dentist Association (PDI), students of Faculty of Dental Medicine and acupuncture doctors. (*)
