UNAIR NEWS –The Student Choir Club of(PSUA)won the first prize in The 3rd International Choral Competition held at Baiden, Austria on June 22-25.
“It’s great. It is the first time for the PSUA team has won in an international competition with classical songs. We presented classical songs and we managed to beat teams from Europe which is clearly the king of classical songs.We won with almost perfect score, 97 out of 100, ” said Ronald Moses, Head of PSUA.
The victory was achieved after the PSUA team defeated its opponents in a series of competition process in Austria.
PSUA team is the only team from Indonesia who managed to reach the final round with seven other teams from various countries.
Having been declared superior of all categories, PSUA team managed to qualify the Grand Prix round with four other teams.
“The competition was very fierce because one of the opponents we thought to be the most difficult to beat did not qualify for the Grand Prix as well, the result was quite shocking and made our hearts race,” said Moses, theEconomics and Business.
In the competition, the PSUA team sang eight songs in various languages,Vezzosi Augelli听,听All Than Can Breathe听,听Dieu!Qu’il La Fait Bon Regarder听,听Contrition听,听Ave Maria听,听Trotz Dem Alten Draehen听,听Salve Regina, andAve Regina听.
The jury expressed his appreciation after a team of 39 singers and 1 conductor managed to satisfy the music lovers in a competition held at a church in Baden.
“The jury asked our conductor” is there a professional singer on your team? “.The jurors were surprised to learn that we wereordinarywho were not from music majors and not professional singers, “added the student of Management undergraduate program.
Along with this successful title won by PSUA team, the team formed on 28 September 1971 also managed to bring home two other best category award, “Best Interpretation of a Choral Piece composed after the Year 2000”, and “Audience Award”.
In addition, the PSUA team competed fiercely with the choir team of the University of St. Thomas The Philippines, and both shared the title “1st Gold Superior”.
Winning in an international competitions is not new for PSUA teams.The team with “Viva La Musica” as the jargon, has won the 14th International Choir Festival Tallinn in 2015 as the fourth winner for Mixed Choir category, the third winner of the Early Music category, and the first winner of the Folksong Choir category.
In addition, they also won awards at the International Warsaw Choir Festival in 2012, and Praga Cantat 24th International Choir Competition in Prague in 2010.
