UNAIR NEWS –Community of RW.3, Kedung Baruk, Rungkut, were able to use self-developed UNAIR.The toilet development was a collaborative program between UNAIR and one of the private partners.
The program undertaken by UNAIR through the Institute of Community Service (LPM), was a form of UNAIR’s commitment to promote clean living.In addition, the toilet development was also part of an effort to prevent people from defecating in the river.
“So far, there are still many people in Surabaya whose disposal leads to the river.This is definitely not healthy.This program is expected to bring change and awareness to the community, “said the Head of LPM UNAIR Prof.Dr.Jusuf Irianto Drs.,., who attended the inauguration of the toilet developed by UNAIR on Monday, November 20.
Prof. Jusuf regretted that some of the locals still use open defecationinstead ofclose defecation.It means, according to Prof.Jusuf, their sanitation is directed into the river.To that end, UNAIR’s participation in community service to give community awareness with the construction of sanitation facilities.
“UNAIR is trying to answer the problem in the community, especially for people close to UNAIR.The program was run because of the cooperation of UNAIR with the city government of Surabaya and assisted by the private sector, ” he explained.
Involvement of many parties in realizing the program, for Prof.Jusuf, is very important.As these sanitation problems are problems that should not be underestimated.By working together, there will be a sense of mutual care.
“The problem will have an impact on the environment.If there is no real action, other ecosystems will be disrupted.It will also affect the community, “said Prof.Jusuf.
As the person in charge of the program Prof.Dr.Herry Agoes Hermadi said that the existing problems in the community must be responded quickly and accurately.Not only health problems, other problems will also try to be solved together, mainly by UNAIR.
“The community should be able to feel the presence of UNAIR.Because that UNAIR can do many things to overcome the problems in the community through its innovations, “said Professor of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UNAIR.
Prof.Herry also added, that the community service he initiated cannot be separated from his liquid biofermentor invention.According to him, the combination of the community by maximizing its findings can be the answer to sanitation problems in Surabaya.
“This liquid is also useful to reduce the smell onseptic tankand even able to drain the toilet without being sucked,” he explained.
Regarding to that matter, Head of Kedung Baruk Fajar Basuki conveyed that his community was really helped by this program. UNAIR Innovation can create a toilet without draining, according to him, it provides convenience for his people.
“This community is helped a lot. We had to suck the toilet before, but we don檛 have to do it again, “he added.
