UNAIR NEWS Located in the city centre of Surabaya, History Studies Program, Faculty of Humanities, 51, put the study of urban history into one of the leading studies.
It began with the existence of the study program is related to needs to meet community condition which keep growing and developing.
Gayung Kusuma, S.S., M.Hum as the head of History Department 51 (UNAIR), during the interview with UNAIR News, he explained that Urban History become the main study, since UNAIR located in the middle of urban people. Other than that, UNAIR also located in the city where the background is maritime, people who living in coastal cities.

There were many events to support the study, such as, seminar and scientific studies by inviting speakers from Netherland or Europe country. Furthermore, there also foreign researchers who came to ask help to conduct research.

The lecturers of History Department also strive to show the existence of Urban History study by conducting research and publishing books. For example, Dr. Purnawan Basundoro, S.S., M.Hum., as a lecturer, has published book entitled Pengantar Sejarah Kota /(Introduction of Urban History).
Sometimes our lecturers, for example Dr. Purnawan invited to Aceh as speaker to told about Urban History,Gayung Stated
Gayung also informed that History Department UNAIR often requested by government agencies to write about urban or regency history. Lamongan, Sebatik Nunukan and Gresik are list of areas which being written by History Department.
Today, historical writing of institutions becomes trade mark. So, human resources of History Department are needed, He stated
