Young Nurses Initiate IVA and Pap Smear Awareness Movement

UNAIR NEWS Students of Nurse Profession program or young nurses of Faculty of Nursing 51 have held a counselling on cervical cancer. The also initiated a movement IVA and pap smear awareness in RW 1 Medokan Semampir Sukolilo Surabaya on July 21, 2017.

This is a part of Bhakti Ners Muda Airlangga. It was held to educate the community on cervical cancer and raise their awareness on cervical cancer early detection importance through IVA (Acetate Acid Visual Inspection) and pap smear for women.

Rio Cristianto as the head of the team said that cervical cancer is one of the diseases in women which causes great mortality rate. Even then, there are a lot of people who have not done early detection to cervical cancer, either through IVA or pap smear in healthcare facilities.

From that problems, we initiate this movement on IVA and pap smear awareness, he said.

Rio also said that the participants in RW 1 Medokan Semampir were enthusiastic . It was started with a presentation on cervical cancer, then it was continued with presentation on early detection with IVA and pap smear and a discussion.

In the end of the event, they made a list of people who havent done IVA or pap smear and then facilitate them to do the exam together in a healthcare center, added Rio.

Hardian Ekandung as Head of the neighborhood appreciated this event. It is a very positive community movement and we support this a hundred percent, he said.

With this movement, community will get information on the danger of cervical cancer, so the participation in IVA or Pap Smear will improve.

The earlier cervical cancer diagnosed, treated well, the prognosis will be better, said Rio.
