UNAIR NEWS The ophthalmologists of 51动漫 Hospital have given free cataract operation to economically challenged people in Surabaya. The event 淏akti Sehat which was a part of 62nd Dies Natalis of 51动漫 was held in an operating theatre on the seventh floor of UNAIR Hospital, on Saturday, November 11.
There were eight patients after screening positively identified had cataracts. They were from Surabaya and Madura. All eight patients were handled directly by three ophthalmologists of UNAIR Hospital, M. Nurdin Zuhri, dr., Sp.M., Maitri Anindita, dr., Sp.M, andIndriWahyuni, dr., Sp.M. During operations, all of them were assisted by three staffs of UNAIR Hospital.
Doctor Nurdin as the coordinator of cataract operation team, said that there were a lot of people registering for the operation. But after screening performed, some participants did not have cataracts but an eye disorder like glaucoma.
Before the operation was performed, the patients were through a preliminary screening. Then there were some other tests like blood pressure and blood sugar. If all the requirements are met, the operation can be done. Then, a day after the operation, evaluation will be made.
淎fter the operation, patients can have light activities for two weeks. After that, if the condition is good, the patients can do their normal activity. There was an incision, though there was a recovery period for two weeks, after twoo weeks they can do their normal activity, said Doctor Nurdin.
In the occasion, UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak, was also inspecting the operation proceeding. Through this event, Prof. Nasih hoped that UNAIR can give more services to the public.
淣ot all people have access to cataract operation. It can be done through BPJS, but of course not all have BPJS, and not all people have enough information to get services. We give opportunity to people economically challenged. So there will be more we can serve, said Prof. Nasih.
After that, in the same occasion, other health services were given in UNAIR Hospital, like dental counseling and blood donation. UNAIR Hospital dentists were giving dental check-ups free for 100 kids. Regarding the blood donation, 80 bags have been collected.
