UNAIR academics join national AEFI committee to advance evidence-based immunization policies

UNAIR NEWS Several academics from 51动漫 () have been selected as members of the National Committee on Adverse Events Following Immunization (Komnas KIPI) under the Ministry of Health. Komnas KIPI is a committee responsible for reviewing and evaluating adverse events following immunization through a scientific approach.

The appointed members include Dr. Arif Nur Muhammad Ansori, M.Si., Dr. dr. Andy Darma, Sp.A(K)., Subsp.GH., dr. Annette d橝rqom, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. dr. Brahmana Askandar Tjokroprawiro, Sp.OG(K)., Subsp.Onk. Their presence further strengthens UNAIR檚 role in bridging scientific advancement and public health policymaking.

Dr. Ansori explained that the selection process for Komnas KIPI membership is based on academic track records, research experience, and scientific contributions in the fields of vaccinology and immunology. He has actively published research at the international level and established global collaborations through various scientific organizations, including the American Society for Virology and the World Society for Virology.

淚n Komnas KIPI, we conduct scientific evaluations of adverse events following immunization, analyze causal relationships based on evidence, and formulate policy recommendations for the Ministry of Health, Dr Ansori stated. He also emphasized the importance of academics in strengthening risk communication to the public in order to prevent misinformation related to vaccines.

According to him, the involvement of UNAIR academics in Komnas KIPI reflects a strong contribution to the health sector, particularly in vaccinology. He noted that UNAIR consistently produces reputable scientific publications and contributes to the advancement of knowledge. 淭he presence of UNAIR academics in Komnas KIPI strengthens the synergy between academic research and national health policy, he said.

As an alumnus of the Master檚 Program in Vaccinology and Immunotherapeutics at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) UNAIR, he also expressed pride in contributing to the committee. He described this experience as an opportunity to directly apply academic expertise within national health policy.

Dr. Ansori highlighted several challenges that continue to arise in addressing adverse events following immunization in Indonesia. He pointed out that public perceptions regarding vaccine safety and limited health literacy remain key issues that require serious attention.

In addition, he noted that the integrated surveillance system still requires further strengthening. 淲e must ensure whether a particular event is truly caused by the vaccine or merely coincidental. This requires a multidisciplinary approach grounded in data, he explained.

Looking ahead, he hopes that the involvement of academics in Komnas KIPI will help increase public trust in immunization programs. He also believes that this role can strengthen vaccine safety monitoring systems while encouraging more accurate and accountable health policies.

淲e hope that this contribution will ensure that every health policy is firmly based on strong scientific evidence and provides tangible benefits to the public, he concluded.
